The Genesis Invitational will be held in a new location in 2025 following the recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
The event formerly known as the Los Angeles Open has been held at Riviera Country Club, located in the Pacific Palisades, since 1999.
The country club is located near the Palisades light. The Los Angeles medical examiner announced Thursday that 27 people died in Southern California fires these last few days.
“The PGA TOUR continues to focus on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles,” said the PGA Tour said in a statement. “We are grateful for the efforts of first responders to save lives and the tireless work done to end the tragic wildfires. »
What courses might Genesis Invitational consider?
As Riviera Country Club is not being considered for the upcoming event, other venues will be considered.
“In conjunction with Genesis, The Riviera Country Club and TGR Live, and out of respect for the current situation, we have determined that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played at an alternate location the week of February 10-16,” the PGA said. Tour said in a statement. “A website update and additional tournament information will be provided in the coming days.”
There have been 11 different host courses used throughout the history of the tournament, but none have been used more than Riviera Country Club.
The club was first used in 1929 and has been used 60 times for the event.
All but one course remains open and could be considered as possibilities for the 2025 event.
Valencia Country Club was the last course used outside of Riviera Country Club in 1998.
