DEUX RIVIÈRES — The weather outside may not be scary, but it’s certainly not very conducive to many outdoor activities.
In this perspective, the Two Rivers Parks and Recreation Department hopes to give the community a place to go when families don’t want to turn into snowmen and snowwomen.
A new golf and multisport simulatorwhich is open to the public at the JE Hamilton Community House, has been open for three months, but Two Rivers Recreation Supervisor Kenny Shillcox has seen a slight increase in attendance in recent weeks.
“The weather the last three weeks has been a lot colder and we’ve had a lot of positives, a lot of people coming out and watching,” Shillcox said.
The simulator, a Truegolf Apogee system, uses a high-speed stereoscopic camera to capture a full range of data points not only for golf, but also for a variety of other games such as basketball, baseball, hockey, cornhole, football, disc golf, bowling. and footgolf.
“The big effort goes to golf, it’s very specific,” Shillcox said. “He has real, real precision.”
The cost of the simulator is $25 per hour for up to four people for golf and eight people for other sports Monday to Thursday and $35 per hour Friday to Sunday.
“The pros are it’s a great environment and you can bring food with you, a cooler of drinks,” Shillcox said. “It keeps costs down.”
Shillcox emphasized that all proceeds go directly to supporting Two Rivers youth sports through the Parks and Recreation Department.
I personally tried golf, footgolf, baseball, soccer, a quarterback challenge and kicking the football for about an hour and a half.
I think everyone who loves golf will love the golf simulator.
It can give you real-time feedback on how your shot is being made, including how you’re hitting the ball with your club.
For someone who has only played golf once in his life, this was almost too accurate, because with my terrible endurance it would have taken me about 15 shots just to reach the green on a Par 4 , but I’m far from the target demographic.
Once I managed to get to the green, with Shillcox’s help, putting was extremely fun and up my speed.
Shillcox demonstrated different golf modes including practice, practice and different settings such as changing the difficulty of golf and all other games from easy, medium and hard.
It’s not hard to imagine an avid golfer spending several hours, especially with the ability to play more than 100 actual courses, although Shillcox lamented that there are currently no Wisconsin courses on the system.

Footgolf was a little faster than me, but it would take some practice to know how hard I hit the soccer ball, but it’s very similar to golf, which makes sense.
The game I was best at was the field goal simulator, and there is an option to attempt a 79-yard field goal.
On easy I had the distance to achieve this, but as I increased the power I was more than a little wide to the left.

As Shillcox mentioned, the real draw is the golf simulator, although with so many other options, there’s more than enough variety for an entire family or group of friends to enjoy.
