Fremd boys soccer finished the season with a second place finish after losing 4-0 to York in the Class 3A state championship game on Saturday, November 6.
York wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Jose Herrera scored in the 39th second, stunning the Vikings.
York’s Samuel Musial extended the lead with a goal at 20:44 in the first half off an assist from Herrera, making the score 2-0.

The Dukes were not satisfied with a 2-0 lead and Musial scored his second goal and the team’s third in 59.06 (19:06 in the second half). Musial delivered an assist to Herrera, returning the favor early on, who found the back of the net at 66:43 to make it 4-0.
Between the third and fourth goals, a frustrated Fremd team received two yellow cards. Caden Statz was flagged first at 61:01, then All-State teammate Demitri Vlahos received a yellow card at 61:32.
The Vikings recorded 3 shots on goal in the loss.

Fremd (21-3-1) allowed just 10 goals in the first 24 games of the season before allowing a season-high 4 goals in the title game. The Vikings recorded six shutouts in the previous seven games.
York (23-2), which had 15 seniors on the roster, won its first-ever boys soccer state championship. York won 3-2 against Lockport in the semifinals. Lockport bounced back to win the third-place match 2-1 against Morton on Saturday.
