Football fans around the world listened Super Bowl 60 Sunday evening, with the New England Patriots And Seattle Seahawks fighting in a rematch from 11 years ago.

The two teams engaged in a defensive battle through the first three quarters, with Seattle holding a 12-0 lead until a combined 30 points in the fourth. Two former UNC football stars, Drake Maye And Mack Hollinsconnected for New England’s first score early in the fourth quarter.

While Maye and Hollins lost in their Super Bowl debut, a 29-13 defeat, another former Tar Heel earned his first trip to the Super Bowl.

Chazz Surratta quarterback-turned-linebacker who played at North Carolina from 2017 to 2020, was part of Seattle’s first Super Bowl-winning team since 2013.

Thanks to Surratt, who recorded no statistics, the Seahawks activated him from injured reserve a few days before the Big Game. Surratt recorded 11 tackles in 11 regular season games for Seattle, playing primarily on special teams.

Surratt played quarterback for Larry Fedora in 2017, starting seven of the nine games he played in, compiling 1,341 passing yards and eight touchdowns. Surratt added 210 rushing yards and five more rushing scores, then redshirted in 2018.

When Surratt played again in 2019, he became a first-team All-ACC selection, finishing second for ACC Defensive Player of the Year. In UNC’s COVID-shortened 2020 campaign, Surratt finished as a semifinalist for the Bronco Nagurski Trophy (top linebacker in football).

Surratt began his NFL career with the New York Jets, who still suffer from organization-wide dysfunction to this day. Now with a winning team, Surratt is a Super Bowl champion four years into his professional football career.
