Former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback finds new transfer portal

Ancient Oklahoma Early Quarterback Brendan Zurbrugg is on the move again for the 2026 season. Zurbrugg entered the transfer portal after 2025, and it has found its new home at the NCAA Division II level for next season.

Zurbrugg transferred to Walsh University to North Canton, Ohio for the 2026 season. There he will be back in his home state, where he should have a great opportunity to play for the Cavaliers. Although his move to the NCAA Division I FBS level didn’t pan out as he hoped, Zurbrugg gained valuable learning experience in both the SEC and Big 12.

Zurbrugg spent just one year in Norman, enrolling in the 2024 recruiting class and playing his true freshman season for the Earlier. From there, he transferred to Utah for the 2025 season. He saw the field at either school, but that is expected to change in 2026.

Zurbrugg was part of the ultimately ill-fated 2024 quarterback room at Oklahoma. This group of players had such high potential that season, but things never worked out for any of Norman’s five players. None of those players (Jackson Arnold, Michael Hawkins Jr., Casey Thompson, Zurbrugg and Steele Wasel) will be on the Sooners’ roster in 2026, just two years after they made up OU’s entire quarterback room.

As a former four-star prospect from Alliance High School in Ohio, Zurbrugg brings with him three additional years of eligibility at Walsh, where he already appears on the team’s online roster. The Cavs compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and had their best season as an NCAA team in 2025.
