While the Iowa Hawkeyes turn the page preparing for the 2025 college football season with a full roster, many teams across the country are looking to poach other teams or fill open spots.
In today’s college football landscape, any coach, like any player, is a fair player. Fresno State is the latest team to poach a coach with Power Four experience.
According to FootballScoop, the Fresno State Bulldogs are set to hire former Iowa Hawkeyes offensive coordinator Brian Ferentzthe son of head coach Kirk Ferentz, in a role as an offensive assistant and tight ends coach.
As Matt Entz assembles his inaugural Fresno State team, there is considerable interest in where Entz, a renowned defensive mind, turns for his offensive team.
He’s about to add a major piece to that puzzle, sources say.
Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Brian Ferentz is expected to join Entz’s staff at Fresno State in a role as a top offensive assistant and also to coach the tight ends. – John Brice, FootballScoop.
Brian Ferentz served as Iowa’s offensive coordinator from 2018-2023 before being relieved of his duties at the end of the 2023 season. Before that, he was on Iowa’s staff in multiple capacities starting in 2012 and worked with the offensive line, running backs and tight ends.
Ferentz spent the 2024 season as an offensive analyst with the Maryland Terrapins. Maryland averaged 23.7 points and 386.3 yards per game.
Fresno State averaged 26.1 points per game in 2024 and 340.6 yards per game. Their tight ends accounted for 35 receptions, 277 yards and a touchdown.
