The NASCAR world experienced a heartbreaking tragedy on Thursday involving one of his own. It has been confirmed that former pilot Greg Biffle and his family all died in a tragic plane crash in Statesville, North Carolina, according to ESPN.

Besides Biffle, his wife Christina, daughter Emma and son Ryder are deceased. Craig Wadsworth, along with Dennis and Jack Dutton, also died in the crash.
All in all, Biffle was one of the most accomplished drivers in the sport. In 2000, he was the NASCAR Truck Series champion and in 2002, the Xfinity Series champion. Eventually, Biffle would accumulate 19 NASCAR Cup Series wins driving for Roush Racing.
He would also become one of the 75 greatest drivers in NASCAR.
“This tragedy has left all of our families heartbroken beyond words,” read a joint statement issued on behalf of the families. “Greg and Cristina were devoted parents and active philanthropists whose lives centered around their young son Ryder and Greg’s daughter, Emma. Emma was a wonderful human being with a kind soul who was loved by many people. Ryder was an active, curious and endlessly joyful child.”

“Each of them meant everything to us, and their absence leaves an immeasurable void in our lives,” the statement read.
“I have lost a dear friend and partner in our NASCAR program,” Jack Roush, co-owner of the team now called RFK Racing, said on social media. “His contributions to our racing team over the years are immeasurable.”
Greg Biffle also left his mark as a humanitarian
In 2024, Biffle was on the ground helping those affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. Essentially, he chartered a helicopter to rescue and deliver supplies to those affected.
As a result, he received praise from North Carolina Governor Josh Stein, who celebrated Biffle for his “courage and compassion.” Additionally, NASCAR celebrated its humanitarian efforts.

“Greg was more than a champion driver, he was a beloved member of the NASCAR community, a fierce competitor and a friend to so many,” the series said. “Beyond his career as a pilot, he gave of himself for the good of our community. Most notably, Greg spent countless hours of his time helping the citizens of North Carolina during the disasters following Hurricane Helene. His tireless work saved lives.”
