A Newcastle football fan has been found guilty of assaulting police during a brawl at a match at Hunter Stadium last year.
The state’s former National Football League player Daniel Burt has been charged with assaulting police during incidents at a Jets home match against Western Sydney Wanderers in December.
Burt told Newcastle Local Court he was confronted by Wanderers fans who blocked his path, causing a fight.
Police told the court they were pelted with beer and food during the incident.
For his part, Burt was found guilty of hitting police officers.
In his defense, Burt rejected these claims, saying he was attacked by an officer who pinned him to the ground.
Burt was found guilty of assault and Magistrate Ian Cheetham fined him $300.
He was also placed on a 12-month good behavior bond.
