Florida basketball’s 6-0 start to the 2024-25 season has the Alligators slowly crawling upward USA TODAY Sports Coaches Polland the Gators are now ranked No. 16 in college hoops after convincing wins over Florida A&M and Southern Illinois.
The Orange and Blue started the season 21st in the standings. pre-season rankingsrose to 19th place in the ranking first update and remained stable there in Week 2. Florida is now 40 points behind Indiana and has a solid 35-point lead over No. 20 Illinois.
The top five remains the same this week with Kansas, UConn, Auburn, Gonzaga and Iowa State leading college basketball, in that order. Illinois (previously No. 20), St. John’s (tied at No. 20) and Texas Tech (No. 24) all dropped out of the rankings, with Ole MademoisellePittsburgh and Xavier join the top 25.

With the addition of the Rebels in the top 25, the Southeastern Conference has eight programs – including Florida – in the top 25. Auburn Tigers (No. 3) remain the top-ranked team in the SEC, followed by Tennessee Volunteers (No. 6), Kentucky Wildcats (No. 8), Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 9), Florida Gators (No. 16), Texas A&M Aggies (No. 20), Arkansas Razors (No. 21) and Ole Miss Rebels (No. 24).
THE Mississippi State Bulldogs And Texas Longhorns both scored 43 in the polls this week, putting the two programs tied for the de facto No. 27 spot in the country. Georgia got three points and LSU got one.
