Before the NHL trade deadline on Friday, March 7, 2025, the hockey news will revisit some of the most memorable professions in the history of the Calgary flames, starting with their competitors from Alberta, the EDMONTON OILERS .

Surprisingly, there is no lost love between flames and oilers. More than 30 years after the summit of their rivalry in the 1980s, when the teams changed the races to the Stanley Cup final, they are still hostile to each other in 2025.

This explains why the two clubs have had little or no transactions. Although Calgary and Edmonton have participated in the NHL since 1980, their first business occurred in 2010.

March 3, 2010

Steve Staios and Aaron Johnson became the first negotiated players between the flames and the Oilers. At the time, Staios was a NHL veteran who had played 879 games, while Johnson had played 206 games.

During the two -season games, the Staios statistics line with the Flames included 57 games, four goals, nine assists and 13 points. He left as free agent in 2011.

Meanwhile, Johnson only played 19 games with three goals and seven points, leaving as free agent in 2010.

Interestingly, the choice of draft involved in this profession, Travis Ewanyk, still plays professionally in Germany. He had never played in the NHL but several seasons of the AHL and ECHL before moving to Europe.

November 8, 2013

The second trade between Calgary and Edmonton involved defenders and guards.

When he moved to southern Alberta, Ladislav Smid was an eight -year -old veteran. He scored 11 goals and 65 points with the Oilers and a goal and seven points in 109 games with the flames in three seasons.

On the other hand, Olivier Roy has never patinated in the NHL, playing several years in AHL and ECHL before moving to Europe to play in Slovenia, Germany and Italy. At 33, he still plays his second visit to Germany.

The Flames distant Laurent Brusse, who has never patinated with the organization, making its NHL debut with the Oilers. He finally found a regular backup role with the Winnipeg jets and won the Stanley Cup with the Golden Knights in Vegas in 2023. Brust is during his second service round with the jets in 2024-25.

After a solid start to his career, Roman Horek played 82 games with the flames in three seasons before the trade. Unfortunately, he only patinated two games with Edmonton before moving to Russia to play in the KHL. Since 2018, Horek has played in the SHL and now skates in the Cheed League.

July 19, 2019

In one of the most important blockbuster movements of 2019, two scorers of 30 goals exchanged sweaters while James Neal was treated from Calgary to Edmonton for Milan Lucic.

A year after having signed with the flames as a free agent, Neal only scored seven goals and 19 points in 63 games, a significant drop in relation to the total of his previous year.

Meanwhile, the production of Lucic had dropped with the oilers, six goals and 20 points in 79 games. In the end, the two players needed a change of decor, which they obtained in this agreement.

In four seasons with Calgary, Lucic scored 39 goals and 83 points, while Neal scored 24 goals and 41 points in 84 games before signing as a free agent. Lucic joined the Bruins in 2023, returning to the team where he won the Stanley Cup in 2011.

In the end, Calgary exchanged the choice of recovery they acquired in the agreement to the Kings of Los Angeles, who chose Kirill Kirsanov at 84th in total in the recovery of 2021.
