Arsenal appear to have a real interest in the potential transfer of Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, according to Charles Watts.
Addressed exclusively to Caught Offside For his latest Daily Briefing column, Watts explained that he was not surprised to see the Gunners looking at Cunha after his fine form for Wolves of late.
The Brazil international looks like he could clearly muster the courage to move to a bigger club, but the problem at the moment is that Wolves will surely do everything they can to keep him while they find themselves in a relegation battle . .
Nonetheless, Arsenal also have major needs at the moment, as they are expected to be without star player Bukayo Saka for around two months, meaning Mikel Arteta would do well to bring in a signing or two in attack in January.
Watts expects we could see Arsenal try something, although big moves are more likely in summer than winter, but Cunha looks like a tricky deal to make.
Matheus Cunha transfer: Arsenal interest confirmed, but deal seems difficult
“It’s obviously still early days for Arsenal in terms of how they’re going to handle without the injured Bukayo Saka“Watts said.
“Arsenal are always reluctant to do business in January and the message coming in this window through the conversations I have had has always been that the club would be reactive rather than proactive in the market.
“It’s understandable, but it feels like something they need to respond to. Losing Saka for ten weeks is a massive blow. It’s that simple.
“I don’t think anyone who comes in has to be a like-for-like replacement. They just need another option who can play in the front line and contribute goals and assists.
“I’m a big fan of Matheus Cunha and Arsenal’s interest in him that makes a lot of sense. I understand though that it would be very difficult to take him away from Wolves midway through the season as they battle relegation.
