ESPN has received a new theme song for the College Football Playoff National Championship from legendary composer John Williams.
On Monday, the 2022 college football season officially comes to a close. The Georgia Bulldogs look to defend the College Football Playoff national championship against the underdog TCU Horned Frogs with a victory at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. This will be one of the biggest games of the year, and ESPN is pulling out all the stops for the broadcast.
Depending on the variety, ESPN has a new theme song for the CFP national championship game, and it was written by none other than legendary songwriter John Williams. The song is called “Of Grit and Glory” and will debut Monday before the game during a video package.
The song will project “the feeling behind the night, the fear and anticipation, the triumph and failure,” according to ESPN’s Martin Khodabakhshian.

Variety previewed the song, and they say it “plays like a joyful overture, opening with fanfares and transitioning smoothly from martial urgency to anthemic splendor, all richly orchestrated and instantly memorable “.
ESPN actually showed a 17-second preview of the song during its NFL Week 18 Saturday doubleheader broadcast. You can see it in the tweet from ESPN PR below:
