Draymond Green is not there for the new All-Star format of the NBA.
He is not alone. But he was certainly the most vocal Sunday evening on the most prominent NBA platforms.
The Warriors in front sat on the desk for the cover of TNT of Sunday stars festivities, which presented a mini-tournament for the first time. The tournament was made up of four teams playing in three games to top a champion.
Three of these teams were made up of NBA All-Stars. The fourth was not. Instead, it was The winner of the Rising Stars tournament on Friday This featured first and second year players who were not selected as stars.
“What are we doing here?”
Before the start of the tournament, Green called this Rising Stars team “a team that no one wants to see”.
“I had to work so hard to play on Sunday evening of the stars weekend,” said Green, while speaking on the TNT desk. “And because the notes are down, because the game is bad, we bring up rising stars? This is not a solution.
“I have never played in the upstairs game. My first two years, I haven’t touched this match. And these guys can touch the star of the stars? Sunday evening?”
He was not finished there.
The first semi-final Sunday evening included the Chuck team and the Kenny team, which were both made up of all-stars real. The CHUCK team prevailed via a 42-31 victory, conducted by performance outside competitions from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Victor Wembanyama.
Then, the Rising Stars team, Aka Team Candace, faced the Shaq team in the second game. Before the tip of this game, Green again placed in the tournament and its first format at 40.
Draymond: Format of “sucks” stars
“You work all year round to be an All-Star and you can play up to 40, then you are finished,” said Green. “It’s so unfair for Victor Wembanyama, who has just taken this game very seriously; Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has just taken this game very seriously.
“When you talk about running after the record record – ‘Melo and Kobe, all those guys who have had a big night of score. They don’t have the opportunity to do it with this game.
“Everything so that we can watch rising stars. Now we get the treat to watch the Olympic team play against a U-19 team. Come on, what do we do?”
Green then signed the segment with its most candid socket to date when it has been asked to assess the format on a scale of 1-10.
“Ten being the best?” Green replied. “A zero. Sucks.”
After the Shaq team marked a 42-35 victory against the upward stars, Green had her say again when asked if the team of rising stars had proven anything with it with his efforts.
“Yes, that they shouldn’t have been there,” said Green. “That’s all they have proven. They never belonged to this court.”
Tell us what you really feel, Draymond.
