British number one Jack Draper qualified for the second round of the Paris Masters by beating Czech Jiri Lehecka in straight sets.
Draper, who won the biggest title of his career in Vienna on Sundaywon 7-5 6-2 in one hour eight minutes.
A tight first set was served before Draper made the crucial break in the 11th game.
The Briton dominated the second set, winning five games in a row to seal the victory.
He will now face fifth-seeded American Taylor Fritz in the second round on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old left-hander, who reached his first Grand Slam semi-final at the US Open last month, rose to a career-high world ranking of 15th on Monday.
Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is through to the third round after a 7-5 6-1 victory over Chilean Nicolas Jarry.
The second seed, who benefited from a bye in the first round, will face Frenchman Ugo Humbert or American Marcos Giron in the round of 16.
Australian Alex de Minaur boosted his chances of qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finals with a 7-5 6-1 first-round victory over Argentine Mariano Navone.
De Minaur will replace Andrey Rublev in the last qualifying position with a qualification for the quarter-finals in Paris and will next face Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.
Russian sixth seed Rublev, who also received a first-round bye, is eliminated after a 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-5) loss to Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo .
Earlier on Tuesday, world number one Jannik Sinner withdrew from the Masters 1,000 due to illness.
Italian Sinner said he contracted a virus after arriving in the city early to train for the event.
“Today I already feel a little better, but my body is not ready to compete and I still feel very, very weak,” said the 23-year-old.
“It makes no sense to go out on the field and try to compete.”
Sinner hopes to recover before the ATP Finals, which will take place in Turin from November 13-20.
