The nine from the back come to you after an excellent weekend which included a lot of golf, sweat and tears. And the real start of the conversation season.
10. It is here, the annual clambake that we call dry media days. I mentioned in my Column “High Five” That the best part is not the time but the media evenings of the dry. But this is another story (literally). I’m going to fail to see my friends, but it’s a long week and with 16 teams, it’s just to decide who you can allow yourself to jump. And then you decide that it is Vanderbilt and Robbie Caldwell arrives there by speaking of his first job as an indoor-soil (in detail, I could add) and you must rush for the quote leaves. It was in 2010, and the temporary coach (who replaced Bobby Johnson) received a standing ovation from the media. These are the days.
11. It was a beauty and the moment when Phil Fulmer did not show up did not show up for fear of obtaining an assignment (do you think this league is cute now?) And the Minicams interviews a high-speaker phone. There are many beautiful stories that will come this week, and I will miss more than anything. But the days of the dry media (starts this morning on the dry network) is certainly serious. And the most spoken in the history of the week will be more the future of university football than the past.
12. Brett Yormark of Big 12 clearly indicated during his media days that his league is in favor of the 5-11 model, five automatic qualifications and 11 teams in general, which any sensible person thinks is the best way to proceed. The question that Greg Sankey will be will know if the dry will go to nine conference games and he returns all the questions to how much money he can withdraw from Disney. Well, that’s what I would do.
13. There was no movement in the ranks of chief coaches, but the alerts of the hot seat arrive. Sam Pittman, Brent Venables (although Joe Castiglione retires can buy venables another year), Hugh freeze and, of course, Billy Napier. In addition, will Mark Stoops really retire after this year? Back in Napier, in the 4th year, I don’t think it is enough for the program “to go in the right direction”. We have to see a team from Florida which is again really relevant. The Gators did not stay stuck with noon matches this year because they have a player at prospective hours at DJ Lagway. But the main thing is that Florida has to be good since the start of the season and the elite in the middle. Remember that Napier last year felt about how her team “looks different”, then she died and was managed by two of her first three opponents at home. It’s time, Billy.
14. One last thing the media, without looking for it on the world interweb, can you tell me who were the first two guests in Florida? The Clambake started in 1985 to give you a clue. The right answers will get a tape in the back and a warm smile.
15. Rory McILroy presented himself with a shaved Noggin in the United Kingdom and did not succeed in the Open of Scotland. I still love her this week at Royal Portrush, but my choice is Viktor Hovland. So don’t bet on him.
16. Remember when the MLB All-Star game was a big problem? I mean, it is always for the Baseball Nerds, but even for a public sporting desire for something to look at, he does not have the same hide as when the leagues did not play. In my time, they were separated into two leagues and they only saw themselves the All-Star game and the World Series. And it was good and we liked it. But then we had to start with the interligue game and the free agency in vagueness and leave my lawn.
17. Ray Criswell and Neal Anderson. These are your answers to anecdotes. I think Criswell could be the only bettor that Florida has ever taken at the Holiday Inn Medical Center or elsewhere.
18. A few days at Vilano Beach were good for the soul. And my ears. The last playlist:
