Denny Hamlin’s professional disappointment in failing to win the 2025 Cup Series championship seems like a grain of sand compared to what he endured in the weeks that followed. He lost his father in a house fire and is currently caring for his mother, who was seriously injured in the same incident. Most people would have given up. Kevin Harvick, however, felt that Hamlin Sr. would not have wanted that for his son.

Denny continued to show remarkable strength, and Harvick spoke of that admirable resilience on the field. Happy Hour in Harvick podcast. Championships can always be won, but losing a father is an utterly devastating pain. Moreover, Hamlinand his father, Desomnis, shared a very special relationship. It was the confidence the elder Hamlin had in his son’s abilities that helped shape one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers.

So, every victory and every feat Hamlin achieved, he owed to his father. Throughout the second half of last season, NASCAR fans watched Hamlin fight to keep his father healthy while dealing with the antitrust lawsuit in court. This made everyone, including Harvickask yourself why so much difficulty was imposed on one person.

Harvick said, “I don’t think anyone would have blamed him if he had just said, ‘I’m going to leave.’ … I don’t know if Denny’s dad would have wanted anything other than for him to go out there and do what he loved to do.

“The legacy that they were able to build together and watch it blossom into a career and a life that Denny has now,” he added.

Morality is one of the main reasons why Hamlin strives to be much stronger and stay in the race car. He was recently asked in a Fox Sports interview if he considered not racing after everything that happened. He admitted that he did, but there was one thing stopping him.

Hamlin said*”I made a promise to Joe (Gibbs). And to the Gibbs family.” *

It’s simply to keep his promise that he’ll climb into the No. 11 Toyota Camry in 2026. A few weeks before the season-opening Daytona 500, he admitted that he’s not yet completely locked in mentally to take things head on, but he firmly believes he will be in time.

His mother, Mary Lou, is recovering from her injuries. Hamlin said she has good days and bad days, but he hopes she will eventually be okay. The stock car racing community continues to offer its unwavering support to the veteran during these difficult times.

The position Denny Hamlin’s father wouldn’t have wanted his son to stop running after his death, says Kevin Harvick appeared first on The rush to sport.
