After the 49ers finished a disappointing 6-11 season, Deebo Samuel asked for a job. The 49ers granted his wish on March 1 in exchange for a choice of fifth round.
He goes from a team in rebuilt mode to the one who goes up, after having made the NFC championship match last season.
Samuel said in his introductory press conference on Thursday that his decision was “more difficult than most people think” because of the relations he developed in San Francisco. He gave the 49ers a list of five favorite destinations, with Washington one of the five.
“Being in San Francisco, I like the winners. I like to win“Said Samuel, via David Bonilla from 49erswebzone. Com. “I am not one of your greatest losers. They went to the NFC championship. »»
The commanders had several prints for Samuel, including his familiarity with the director general Adam Peters, who previously was the deputy director general of the 49ers, and his desire to return to the east coast. The immediate reversal of commanders with the quarter-Arrière Jayden Daniels was also a plus.
This did not hurt that the team has signed up in Samuel by reworking their contract to guarantee $ 17 million in their salary of 2025 while adding $ 3 million in incentives.
“It meant a lot,” said Samuel. “By not walking on the field for this team, by not meeting everyone in the building, it just shows what they think. And for me, for my part, it’s like, they trusted me so much to do the things they did with regard to my contract, I cannot come here and drop them.
“I have to give everything, do everything I have to do to be the best version of myself when I come here.”
Samuel comes out of a disappointing season with only 806 melee yards and four affected in total.
