DAYTONA on Sunday has seen the most cars involved in accidents in this event since the 2019 race and ended a Daytona Speedweeks which saw nearly 100 Cup vehicles, XFINITY and CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES involved in accidents.

The Daytona 500 of this year had 35 of the 41 cars in the race involved in an accident based on the Nascar race report and the information from Racing Insights.

These are the largest number of cars in a Daytona 500 accident, because 37 were involved in incidents in the 2019 race.

William Byron was running seventh on the backstretch in the last round when the leaders were sinking on Sunday. He escaped chaos and won the race for the second consecutive year.

Denny Hamlin led on the back of the last round before contact crashed, ending his candidacy for a fourth victory of Daytona 500.

“It’s a CRAPHOOT so (explained) now,” said Hamlin on his podcast “of harmful actions” of what the superspeedways race has become “I hate that what is supposed to be our most prestigious race, a showcase of heroes, is lucky.

“It’s luck. It’s lucky because … just avoid wrecks. … I really grew up, really agitated by the way we got here. »»

Ryan Preece was one of those who crashed in Daytona 500 on Sunday. His car went in the air. He marked the second time in the past two years, his car has embarked on the air in Daytona International Speedway.

This pre -bank has moved away from such an accident showed the accent on Nascar security for years, but Preece does not want to continue to be in accidents where his car peels off.

“I don’t know what the right thing to say right now is,” said Preece after leaving the interior care center on Sunday, “but I think what I mean as a father, as a runner , it is that we continue to beat a door hoping for a different result.

“I think we know there is a problem at superspeedways. I don’t want to be an example of when he finally gets someone. I don’t want it to be me. I have a 2 year old daughter. … Something should be done because cars leave the ground like that. It seemed, honestly, worse than Daytona in (August) ’23. “”

Nascar officials inspected the safety elements of the car on the track and had to go to RFK Racing on Tuesday to examine the car more, Elton Sawyer, main vice-president of Nascar’s competition, Tuesday morning on Siriusxm radio NASCAR.

Since 2017, each Daytona 500 has had at least 25 cars involved in accidents. At that time, the average number of cars in accidents by Daytona 500 was 31.

But it was not just the Daytona 500 that saw a number of wreck cars.

There were 13 cars involved in accidents in the two qualifying races Thursday evening, which means that 48 cars were involved in accidents last week.

It is half of the total of 96 accident vehicles last week in Cup, Xfinity and trucks. There were 30 cars involved in accidents in the Xfinity race and 18 vehicles involved in the truck race.

The 96 planting vehicles last week in the first three series of NASCAR were timid in total last year.

From 2015-21, there were an average of 95.3 vehicles in accidents from Daytona Speedweeks in the Cup, Xfinity and Trucks. These figures included the clash, the exhibition race which moved from Daytona after the 2021 season.

The number of cars in accidents at Daytona Speedweeks experienced a brief decrease after the departure of the confrontation. The first two years (2022 and ’23) without confrontation, the average number of vehicles in an accident during speedweeks was 69.5.

The last two years have seen the average number of vehicles in an accident during speedweeks climb to 97.5.
