We’re just a few weeks away from conference play of the college basketball season, and so far a major story has surrounded the health of Kansas freshman and projected No. 1 pick Darryn Peterson.

Peterson has missed all but two of Kansas’ games this season. And this trend will continue for at least one more game.

To start the season, Peterson was limited by what was initially called cramping, but was later diagnosed as a hamstring strain. And although Peterson missed Kansas’ impressive three-game stretch during the Players Era in Las Vegas, there was optimism that he would return for Tuesday night’s showdown against fifth-ranked UConn at Allen Fieldhouse.

Head coach Bill Self confirmed Monday that Peterson has been practicing and looking good. It would just depend on how he felt Tuesday morning for a definitive answer. On Tuesday morning, that response was yet another missed game.

In the two games he played, Peterson looked phenomenal, averaging 21.5 points on 60 percent shooting. We will have to see if the announced hope will be able to make his return on Sunday against his rival Missouri.
