Needing just six points heading into Tuesday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard became the 51st member of the NBA’s 20,000-point club in the first quarter.
The next closest active player to Lillard is teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo, who sits at 17,605.
Lillard had a career that all but guaranteed the 33-year-old a spot in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He scored 19,375 career points during his 11 years with the Portland Trail Blazers.
In Portland, Lillard was named the 2013 Rookie of the Year, a seven-time All-NBA selection and was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.
Lillard and the Bucks start this season with a 19-7 record, which is good enough to be 1.5 games behind the Boston Celtics for first place in the Eastern Conference.
