Dallas starsAmerican Professional ice hockey team based in Dallas west Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The franchise appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals five times (1981, 1991, 1999, 2000 and 2020) and won a championship (1999).

The team started playing in 1967 as Minnesota North Stars and was originally based BloomingtonMinnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. The North Stars inaugural campaign was a moderate success, the team qualifying for a place in the playoff series – and winning its first round series – despite the season with a losing record. The season was also marked by a tragedy, as a center Bill Masterton became the first NHL player to die for an injury supported during a match; He died after hitting his head (without a helmet) on the ice during a January 1968 competition. Directed by the right Bill Goldsworthy, the North Stars qualified for the playoffs in four consecutive seasons (1969-1970 to 1972-1973), but in 1973, the team participated in a sequence of six seasons of losing campaigns. In the late 1970s, the team was in a financial situation and was sold to owners of another NHL franchise in difficulty, the Cleveland Barons, in 1978. As part of the single layout, the two teams were merged and continued as North Stars.

The North Stars displayed a record for victories in 1979-1980, and the following year, the club made its first appearance in the Stanley Cup final, where it lost against the New York Icelanders In five games. Behind the right game Dino Ciccarelli and Center Neal Broten, in Minnesota, ran five more seasons between 1981-1982 and 1985-1986 in which he qualified for the playoffs but did not progress further than the conference finals. This sequence was followed by seven seasons of consecutive losses during which the team nevertheless advanced the playoffs four times. North stars lost in the first round each time, with a notable exception to come in the first 1990-1991 season. During this eliminatory series race, northern stars of 27–39–14 (who presented Bruten and the left wing Brian Bello) eliminated the Chicago Blackhawks And Blues de Saint-Louis– The owners of the two best NHL records that season – as well as the defending champion Edmonton Oilers Before finally losing the Pittsburgh penguins In the Stanley Cup final. Despite the surprising race of Minnesota in the final, the team was assaulted by financial difficulties resulting from its long period of loss of seasons. After the club owner, Standard Green, failed to conclude an agreement to build an arena, he moved the franchise to Dallas in 1993.

Abandoning the “North” of their name, the stars were a moderate success in the first years of the club in Texas Before winning five consecutive division titles between 1996 and 1997 and 2000-2001. In 1998-1999 Center Mike Modano, the top scorer of all time in the franchise and goalkeeper Ed Belfour led the stars to the best NHL record during the regular season, which Dallas followed by beating the Buffalo In a final of the six -game Stanley Cup to capture the first franchise championship. The stars returned to the Stanley Cup final the following season, but lost against the Devils from New Jersey. After missing the playoffs in 2001-2002, the team rebounded to qualify for the playoffs each season between 2002 and 2003 and 2007-2008, advancing the conference final in 2007-2008 (a defeat against the possible champion. Detroit Red Wings).

The stars then concluded a sequence without a season which reached a franchise record four years in 2011-2012. Dallas returned to the playoffs in 2013-2014, in which the team lost in the first round. Led by the left wing Jamie Benn, the stars displayed the best record of the Western Conference during the 2015-2016 season, but the team was upset by the Blues de Saint-Louis In a series of seven second round games in the second year. However, the stars regressed in 2016-2017 while the team fell in fifth place in the divisional classification, which led to a change of coach out of season. Dallas returned to the playoff series in 2018-2019, when the team achieved an upheaval in the first round before being eliminated in the second round. The stars again turned to the playoffs in 2019-2020, where they won three victories in the series to win the title of the Western Conference. Dallas was then defeated by the Tampa Bay Lightning In a final of six game Stanley Cup.

Dallas reached the Western Conference final in 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, but lost twice. During the 2024-2025 season, the stars met in the conference final, where they will play the EDMONTON Oilers.
