After winning 4-2 series in each of the first two rounds of the 2023-24 NBA Playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks are considering another potential trip to the NBA Finals.

Fans don’t want to get ahead of themselves and overlook the Minnesota Timberwolves, but taking a 1-0 series lead makes it impossible to keep our thoughts entirely in the present moment. No amount of trying to ground you will completely take away visions of Luka Doncic hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

So, since we can’t avoid thinking about it, let’s look at it. Here’s a complete look at the Mavs’ NBA Finals history.

The Dallas Mavericks have made two NBA Finals appearances in franchise history – one in 2011 and one in 2006. Both series were against the Miami Heat, and both went six games. The Mavs lost the first meeting, but in 2011, they won the series to capture their first (and so far only) NBA championship.

The Mavs are in the Western Conference Finals for the sixth time in franchise history. They are 3-2 in these series so far since their first appearance in 1988.

The Dallas Mavericks have one NBA Finals MVP award winner in franchise history. Predictably, this happened in the 2010-11 season, when they won their only championship. Most Mavs fans don’t need me to tell them that the award was won by Dirk Nowitzki, who averaged 26.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 40.3 minutes per game. To make things even sweeter, Dirk far surpassed LeBron James (17.8 points, 7.2 rebounds per game in the series).

How many NBA championships do the Mavericks own?

The Mavericks own one NBA championship, which they won in the 2010-11 season in six games against the Miami Heat. This series earned Dirk Nowitzki the franchise’s only NBA Finals MVP award as he led a team including Jason Kidd, Tyson Chandler, Shawn Marion, Jason Terry and JJ Barea to a victory against the “Big 3” of the Miami Heat composed of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade. and Chris Bosh.

When was the last time the Dallas Mavericks reached the NBA Finals?

The 2010–11 season was also the last time the Mavericks advanced to the NBA Finals. Since then, they have come close twice: first when they lost the Western Conference Finals to the Golden State Warriors in 2022 and now again when they are back in the Western Conference Finals in 2024 .

How many Finals appearances do the Mavericks have?

The Mavericks have appeared in two NBA Finals in franchise history. In addition to that 2011 victory, they made their first-ever NBA Finals appearance in 2006. The Heat, this time led by Wade, Shaquille O’Neal and Antoine Walker, defeated the Mavs in six games. And this, despite the sustained efforts of Dirk Nowitzki (22.8 points, 10.8 rebounds per game) and Jason Terry (22.0 points per game).

How many teams have never won the NBA championship?

With a championship victory, the Mavericks are ahead of the following franchises that have never won an NBA championship: Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns , Utah Jazz.
