It is not surprising that Sidney Crosby was once again recognized by his Pittsburgh penguins teammates.
On Monday, the Penguins announced that Crosby was the recipient of the prices of the most precious players of the Penguins for the fifth consecutive season, as voted by his teammates. This is the 13th time that he was appointed MVP of the team, which broke the previous Record of Franchise by Mario Lemieux from 12.
He also received the player’s prize from the player by his teammates, who is awarded to the player whose leadership crosses both on the ice and outside.
Crosby, 37, Wayne Gretzky exceeded to become the leader of all NHL time in the points seasons per game with 20 Thursday in a 7-3 defeat against the Buffalo. The 27 goals of the captain and 81 points in 73 games slow down the Penguins once again, and he ranks third in the NHL in five points out of five with 53.
In addition, striker Noel Acciari was appointed by his teammates for the PEGUUINE UNSUG Hero Prize, who is given to the player who best illustrates an extreme effort despite little recognition.
Acciari leads the penguins in both strokes (168) and blocked shots (98), and he is on the right track to win the second season of 100 blocks in his career. He also has 179 minutes in digital disadvantage this season, which also leads the team.
He recorded seven strokes and two shots blocked in Sunday 1-0 victory against the Ottawa senators.
"He is an important player for us," Head coach Mike Sullivan said. "I think that many of his contributions do not always appear on the highlight coil or that they do not appear on the match sheet. These are the “ungrateful jobs” we are talking about.
"He pays a price. There is a cost to be won, and it is ready to pay it. I think Christmas was an invaluable player for us throughout the year."
