Pace of play is one of the biggest hot topics in Major League Baseball these days. This is also a topic of discussion on the virtual diamond with MLB The Show. Sony San Diego Studios has introduced Quick Counts in MLB 15 The Showbut they are perhaps looking to take another step towards shortening a game in MLB The Show 17.

On Monday, SSDS released its Little Things trailer and as you can see in the tweet below from Operation Sports’ Steve Noah, there’s an option in the bottom left corner called Critical Moments.

We haven’t received a formal explanation for this option/feature, but it sounds a lot like Madden’s Play The Moments feature, as Noah suggests.

I agree, this almost certainly seems like a feature that will allow players to play only the most exciting and impactful moments from every game on their team’s schedule in Franchise Mode. Of all the great sports games, baseball titles are perhaps the most difficult to win over an entire season.

The games are longer, and if you’re a fan of statistical authenticity like me, then you scoff at the idea of playing fewer than 162 games in a season. I had already given in to the idea of playing full seasons with a combination of full games, quick counting games, and mock competitions.

If Critical Moments is what I think it is, it might work even better as an option to speed up the season’s play. Additionally, players could also enjoy the best parts of a contest, making it a somewhat addictive option for franchise mode players.

More details will be confirmed on February 23 when the full Little Things Twitch stream airs. Expect even more information on the feature on March 9 when the team focuses its Twitch stream on Franchise Mode. Stay tuned for more information and insights as details continue to arrive.
