Fantasy football draft season is almost here.
So there is a checklist you need to go through, especially if you are running a league: Review best fantasy football team names for your team, dream a last place punishmentand start creating your spreadsheet with crosspieces, busts and more
Now it’s time to think about how to determine the selection order. And while this could be done by taking the names of all your fellow managers, writing them down on pieces of paper, and drawing them randomly, you know you could do something better, more fun, and definitely good for social media.
Thanks to Twitter, we have the 2024 edition of our now annual list:
1
Make a combine harvester like these people did
It’s a classic for a reason.
2
Take part in a creative race or some kind of physical challenge
It’s a bit like a combine harvester, but not really.
4
Order a cameo for a celebrity to do it
A worthy and memorable investment of money.
5
Use a video game (specifically, a WWE title)
6
Turn last place penalty as a means of determining draft order
A way to connect last season to this one.
7
Use a contest based on a random chance event
I actually got this idea from a thread on this topic over 6 years ago. We had 12 teams. We all arrived at noon. The first thing we did was to form teams based on the names that were drawn. So 6 pairs. Each pair then randomly drew the name of a pizza delivery place and a type of pizza (pepperoni, meat lovers, etc). Then at the same time, we all ordered from Uber Eats. It was amazing to have 12 grown men standing on the sidewalk screaming when we saw the first delivery guy around the corner. So the first pair got choices 1 and 2, then each pair just flipped a coin to see who got first or second. You could do 12 pizza orders and not form pairs, but that seems excessive.

Let people pick their spot in the draft
I’ve heard about this for years and I love it, so here it is: you have a hat full of names and when you pick one, that person gets to pick ANY pick they want. So if you get picked first, you can take pick #3 if you want. Drama!
