Copa del Rey review: Sevilla shocked by Almeria, Atletico Madrid among four La Liga teams to progress

The 2024-25 Copa del Rey continued on Saturday with six more matches, featuring Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla. After Friday’s giant massacre, which saw Pontevedra defeat Mallorca, another shock took place.

UD Almeria 4-1 Sevilla

Almeria produced an incredible second half performance to overcome Seville. The La Liga side had led at the break after Isaac Romero scored in the early stages, but a Marko Milovanovic equalizer and then a Luis Suarez hat-trick ensured a fantastic result for the Segunda side.

Marbella FC 0-1 Atlético Madrid

Atletico Madrid will be present for the draw for the quarter-finals, even if the victory of Diego Simeone’s team was not convincing. Antoine Griezmann scored the only goal of the match in the first half.

UD Logrones 0-0 Athletic Club (3-4 pens)

Athletics club had a lot of difficulty against the Logrones, third division, and it was ultimately the penalties which decided the outcome of this tie. In the end, the defending champions emerged victorious with a score of 4-3.

SD Huesca 0-1 Real Betis

It was not a convincing performance from Real Betisbut they did enough to secure their place in the quarter-finals. The only goal of the match came from Isco Alarcon, who scored for the second consecutive match (after Rayo Vallecano’s pre-winter break).

Tenerife 1-2 Osasuna

Two goals in the first half were enough to Osasuna to face Tenerife in the round of 16. Jorge Herrando and José Leon (OG) scored the goals for Los Rojillos, which were caught up later in the first half by Leon scoring at the right end.
