Connecticut SUN does not provide Marina Mabrey, commercial guard after asking to be treated earlier this month.
The president of the team, Jennifer Rizzotti, told the Associated Press on Tuesday evening in a telephone interview that it was not in the interest of the franchise to move Mabrey, that she expects to be a big part of the present and the future of the team.
“Marina is someone we want on our list,” said Rizzotti. “The decision not to exchange it is that we want it to play for us. She is competing and we love her as a person. We want to keep it. It is an easy -to -build room around. »»
Mabrey came to Connecticut last summer after asking for a business in the Chicago sky just before the stars break. It collected an average of 14.9 points and 3.4 assists in 16 games for the sun, mainly in reserve. Connecticut sent Rachel Banham and Moriah Jefferson to Chicago with their first round choice this season and an exchange of choice next year.
“We have wanted it for more than one semester, it was a priority for us,” said Rizzotti. “She was trying to integrate into a list already established last year.”
Mabrey’s agent Marcus Crenshaw, said in a statement to ESPN that he had been shocked that the team would not exchange his client.
“In this current era of the empowerment of women and support for players, the CT Sun threatening to force Marina Mabrey to play for them after her request for trade,” he said. “Why would anyone try to force someone to play in their team when they don’t want to be there?” It is counterproductive in several ways and all those to whom we have spoken are perplexed in the way they manipulate Marina, after having exchanged the players of the renowned temple.
“The coach separated. No free agent has returned and they do everything they can to try to force Marina to stay when she clearly doesn’t want to be there. It’s interesting.
The sun lost the five starters of last season’s race at the League semi-finals. Alyssa Thomas, Dijonai Carrington and Ty Harris were exchanged while Dewanna Bonner and Brionne Jones are left as free agents.
The sun added Tina Charles, Natasha Cloud, Diamond Deshields, Jacy Sheldon and Lindsay Allen on their list. Connecticut also hired the former coach of the Belgian national team Rashid Meziane to replace Stephanie White, who left for Indiana.
“We are going to be very different. We added some veterans pieces to him, “said Rizzotti. “We have been very strategic and this strategy is not only for 2025.”
