New Orleans-For almost two decades, the Patriots of New England dominated the NFL like no other franchise.
During 19 seasons (2001-2019), they won 17 AFC East divisional crowns, made 17 appearances in playoffs and reached nine Super bowlsby winning six. No doubt their best team – in 2007 – was the first to go 18-0 … Only to lose at the end.
It is not a shock that a team would come to challenge this series of magnitude. It is that it happened immediately – the end of the patriots’ reign corresponds to the ascent of these heads of Kansas City, who are looking for their fourth title of the Super Bowl, and third consecutiveIn six seasons when they face Philadelphia on Sunday.
Let’s be clear: the chiefs have not yet reached the level of New England.
During the dozens of recent years, Kansas City has been in five Super Bowls (and with a chance to add to these three titles) while making 11 appearances in playoffs via nine division crowns.
It is an incredible section, but do it for another half-receiver, then compare us.
Likewise, while the quarter-arre Patrick Mahomes is an illustrious career of Tom BradyHe is not there yet. Mahomes has three titles for the seven of Brady (six with New England).
Mahomes is only 29 years old, so there is time.
There is a place, however, that the debate on supremacy is particularly close – the coach of the Chiefs Andy Reid against Bill Belichick of New England.
Belichick, 72, is now a head coach of the University of North Carolina. He is widely considered as the greatest coach of all time, partly because of his six Super Bowl titles, his innovative game plans and his two Lombardis won as a defensive coordinator with the New York Giants .
Reid, 66, may never be as appreciated as Belichick, but he quickly argues that his curriculum vitae as a head coach is equally with BB. Another super bowl would be a step in this direction.
For the moment, Belichick has a lot for him. His six titles to the three current Reids are an important advance, especially for coaches at this level where victory is essentially the wait every season.
Belichick also defeated Reid on-one in the Super Bowl two decades ago-The Patriots defeating the Eagles of Philadelphia of Reid. Belichick also beat the Reid chiefing teams in two other playoff games – including the AFC championship after the 2018 season.
Belichick resulted in 29 seasons from the NFL and is 302-165 (.647) of all time during regular season matches, plus 31-13 (.705) in the playoffs.
Reid resulted in 26 seasons and is 273-146-1 (.651) in the regular season and 28-16 (0.632) in the playoffs. Sunday will be his 45th game in the playoff series, breaking a draw for the most of all time with Belichick.
The edge remains with Belichick, but not a ton.
Here is where it becomes interesting-just or unfair, almost all the success of the Belichick head coach came with Tom Brady as a starting quarter. He only made 36-44 (0.450) in a five-season race in Cleveland and in his six years Non Brady in New England, he had 45-54 (.454).
Part of this requires a context, of course. For example, its 5-11 brand its first season in New England was part of an impressive construction.
And while Brady is Brady, New England had many talents in the fame (or future renowned temple). Its first three championships were built and fed as much, if not more, by a vicious defense. The Pats might have won all these Lombardis if the very capable Drew Bledsoe had never been injured and Brady remained a backup.
Even with Brady at his peak, Belichick’s sense of training was obvious – and also a great reason why Brady became the player he was.
That said, the figures are the figures. Belichick could not reproduce success once Brady went to Tampa Bay.
Reid, to a much higher degree, a. No, he did not win the super bowls before the arrival of Mahomas, but his non -Mahomes record in Kansas City and previously Philadelphia is impressive. He went 224-130 (.583) during a 14-year-old race with the Eagles and arrived at the Super Bowl with Donovan McNabb as a quarter.
At the start of Kansas City, he took the chiefs in the playoff series four times in five years with Alex Smith to QB.
Anyway, they are two of the greatest of all time. In terms of building statistics, Reid is sitting pretty with Mahomes always at his peak.
A victory on Sunday would help the chiefs in all categories of the debate, but even if they are not below the three peat, they will be back next season as a favorite to win everything.
Belichick trains the college ball, Andy Reid winning him in a way that few could have seen coming.
