The NCAA transfer portal closed two weeks ago, but Colorado just scored perhaps its biggest victory of the cycle on Wednesday night.
Former New Mexico State defensive lineman Ezra Christensen originally committed to the Buffs on Jan. 9, but had not officially joined the program due to an eligibility issue. A a report surfaced last week that he was unlikely to receive a waiver for another year because he had already played five seasons.

That all changed on Wednesday when Colorado’s official X account announced that Christensen had signed with the Buffaloes.
The announcement comes after Christensen posted a photo on his Instagram story this seemed to show him during a flight over the Rocky Mountains. Obviously, he received the waiver and will join the Buffs for his final collegiate season.
Christensen joins a growing list of college players fighting the NCAA over whether junior college seasons should count toward eligibility.
Getting Christensen’s signature over the line is a massive win for Colorado, as he was arguably the best defensive lineman in the Group of Six in the transfer portal. In his lone season with New Mexico State, he accumulated 11 tackles for loss and six sacks to go along with a total of 42 tackles. He also led the FBS with 28 quarterback hurries. Pro Football Focus gave Christensen the third-highest grade (88.9) among defensive tackles last season.

The addition of Christensen gives the Buffaloes a high-level starting player who can rush the passer and play the run at an elite level, two traits that Colorado’s defense was sorely lacking in 2025.
