Charlotte, NC (AP) – NASCAR penalized Austin Cindric 50 points and inflicted a fine of $ 50,000 on Wednesday for intentionally shot Ty Dillon during the race of the series last weekend at Circuit of the Americas.
Dillon moved Cindric on the track at the start of the race and Cindric quickly retaliated by hanging Dillon on the right back, turning the Dillon car.
Nascar clearly indicated that they will not tolerate drivers who hang the competitors on the right back to run them because of the potential dangers. Bubba Wallace and Chase Elliott were both suspended before for similar actions.
The penalty drops Cindric from Team Penske from 11 to 35th in the ranking before this weekend race at Phoenix Raceway.
Nascar inflicted a fine on Carson Hocevar $ 50,000 and penalized him 25 points for intentionally destroying Harrison Burton last year. Hocevar hung Burton at the right back when he was cautious at Nashville Superspeedway.
One of the reasons why Cindric was not suspended, according to a Nascar official, is because it happened on a road route with lower speeds and tight limits – and the result did not draw a flag of prudence.
Wallace and Elliott both hung other pilots on oval with higher speeds that have led to warnings.
In additional penalties announced on Wednesday, Nascar said that two crew members at the Kyle Larson stand had been suspended two races for a tire that came out of his car during the race for the last weekend cup in Cota. Brandon Johnson, the Jackman and the BLAINE ANDERSON front tire changer were both suspended.
