CHICAGO (AP) — Angel ReeseThe historic rookie season is over.
THE Chicago Sky declared forward on social media Saturday evening She indicated she was suffering a season-ending injury, but did not specify what it was. She was listed on the team’s injury report with a wrist injury.
“What a year! I never would have guessed the last basket of my rookie season would be a 3, but maybe that was God telling them to give them a taste of what they’ll see more of in year 2 lol,” Reese wrote. “Through it all, I’ve shown that I belong in this league, even when no one else believed I did. All I ever wanted was to come to the W and make an impact. I can confidently say I’ve done that and will strive to continue to do so.”
Reese finished the season averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds. That was the highest rebounding average in league history. Reese also set a rookie record with 26 double-doubles, his last coming in a win over Los Angeles Friday evening.
Earlier in the season, Reese had a league-record 15 consecutive games with a double-double. She also set the record for most rebounds in a season, surpassing Sylvia Fowles’ record.
Chicago is battling for the final WNBA playoff spot, currently tied with Atlanta for the eighth position.
