Another former Steelers coach has found a new NFL team after not making the cut for Mike McCarthy’s team in Pittsburgh. According to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, former Steelers outside linebackers coach Denzel Martin will join the Los Angeles Chargers as an assistant outside linebackers coach.
Martin interviewed with the Cowboys earlier in the offseason, but instead landed with the Chargers.

The Steelers were Martin’s first job as an NFL coach; he joined the team in 2016 as a scouting assistant. He oversaw elite outside linebacker units during his time in Pittsburgh, from star coaches like TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith to solid contributors like Bud Dupree and Nick Herbig. Dupree was with the Chargers in 2025.
However, for now at least, Martin will take a step back on the coaching ladder, becoming an assistant outside linebackers coach on Jim Harbaugh’s staff in Los Angeles.
Martin isn’t the first coach the Chargers have hired along with the Steelers this year. Schultz reported Earlier in the week, Los Angeles hired former Steelers linebacker Sean Spence as the Chargers’ new inside linebackers coach for the upcoming season.
