College Football Playoff selection committee chairman Boo Corrigan made some comments Tuesday that will ruffle a lot of feathers.
Amid the current sign-stealing scandal MichiganCorrigan ignored the entire controversy and basically told fans that this was under the jurisdiction of the NCAA.
The NCAA launched an investigation into Michigan’s alleged sign-stealing violations less than a month ago, and the investigation could drag on longer than expected given the mounting evidence.
This doesn’t concern the CFP committee in 2023. According to Corrigan, the committee’s only job is to rank teams. Michigan is currently No. 3 in the latest CFP rankings.
CFP Committee Chairman Boo Corrigan is asked how Michigan’s sign-stealing allegations impact the rankings process: “Our job is to rank teams.”
A moment later: “We view this as an NCAA issue, not a CFP issue.”

For playoff contenders who wondered whether Michigan would be disqualified from the postseason this year, Corrigan’s comments dealt a pessimistic blow.
The CFP committee would not consider the Wolverines’ sign-stealing crimes in its rankings, and Corrigan intends to “follow the protocols.”
Corrigan briefly explained: “Our job, as we see it, is to rank teams and follow our protocols. As we went through it, this was not part of any of the discussions that took place during our time together. We really look at it as an NCAA.” It’s a problem, not a CFP problem. Right now, as we look at this, we want to make sure we have not just the top four teams, but the top 25 teams, right? »
Corrigan’s clarification makes sense from a rules perspective. Michigan’s rivals will be those who deem this treatment unfair and continue to look for ways to bring down a school currently mired in controversy.
