The Vancouver Canucks will be without their top scorer on Monday. As reported Thomas Drance of The AthleticKiefer Sherwood is injured and will not play against the Montreal Canadiens. Drance also reported that, according to head coach Adam Foote, Sherwood is listed as day-to-day, but “could miss up to a week.”
Sherwood is not only Vancouver’s leading scorer, but he also ranks second in the NHL in hits. His absence will be significant since he plays both shorthanded and on the power play. Sherwood has not missed a game this season and is one of five players to appear in all 44 games this year.

What adds to this injury is that Sherwood’s name continually comes up in trade rumors. The 30-year-old is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year and is expected to be traded before the March 6 deadline. Based on Foote’s comments, this injury appears to be minor, which is a positive for the team.
