The Vancouver Canucks (0-0-1) conclude their two-game homestand with a Friday night matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers (0-0-0). The evening will be special as fans will have the chance to celebrate defenseman Alex Edler, who signed a one-day contract to retire with the organization. As for the game itself, Vancouver enters the game looking for its first win of the season after losing 6-5 in overtime to the Calgary Flames on Wednesday. Last season, the Flyers won both games against the Canucks, beating Vancouver 6-1 during the seasonal series.
This game against Philadelphia will be a great opportunity for the Canucks to show that the season opener was just a fluke. It won’t be easy, however, as the Flyers will have a lot of adrenaline going since it will be their first game of the 2024-25 season. With a lot of talk from the players and Rick Tocchet about being better, fans should expect a stronger effort from Vancouver on Friday night.

Players to watch:
Quinn Hughes
As the organization celebrates Alex Edler, expect a big game from his former teammate Quinn Hughes. The duo played two full seasons together and were on the roster during the Canucks’ 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Although Hughes can’t surpass any of Edler’s franchise records, the Vancouver captain should continue to get closer as he looks to win his second multi-point game of the season.
Matvei Mishkov
For the second game in a row, Canucks fans will witness their NHL debut as Matvei Michkov is welcomed to the NHL. The seventh overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft is expected to play on the Flyers’ top line and will be dangerous every time the puck is on his stick. One of Russia’s top prospects over the past two decades, Michkov will be tough to stop in his first year.
