Canadians need Kirby Dach to prove himself next season after knee surgery

For some NHL players – mainly following a pure chance – their best presented career plans disintegrated due to coherent injuries. This is what happens to the Montreal Canadians Center Kirby Dach.

24 year old dachs The season ended after undergoing knee surgery This week on the same knee he injured last season, when he appeared in just two games. Owen Beck slipped on the second line to replace Dach.

This marks the second consecutive season, injuries ended the Dach campaign, but injuries affected him almost his entire NHL career. The way things have developed for him this year, his career trajectory is not going in a positive direction.

Before Dach injury This season, he played 57 games – almost identical to the 58 games he played for Montreal in 2022-23. But during the 2022-23 campaign, Dach scored 14 goals and 38 points. This season, he only generated 10 goals and 22 points.

Some may note that its individual figures were down this year because its minutes were reduced from 6.30 p.m. on average two years ago to only 3:40 p.m. this season. But Canadians are a better and deeper team this season, so you can see why Hab coach Martin St-Louis reduced the use of Dach when the results did not arrive. Dach often moved between the second, third and fourth lines.

Dach simply did not play at the level you expect from a third -plated player in the general classification by Chicago Blackhawks In 2019. You cannot blame Montreal GM Kent Hughes if it comes out this summer and finds a player who can compete as Center 2 of Canadians to replace Dach. In the current state of things, Dach has slipped into the “show, don tell” mode when it comes to asserting itself as a key element in the future of Montreal.

Dach is under contract until next season to a salary ceiling of approximately $ 3.36 million. This is a relatively cheap issue for someone who should have played a more central role in the Canadians plan for success. But after this last injury, it could easily be pushed into the Montreal depth board until it proves that it can be invoked to manage the rigors of the regular season.

Canadians will probably not make the STANLEY Cup qualifiers, so that they can allow themselves to continue to be patient with their young players. But when it comes to Dach, the moment of patience is almost finished. When he arrives at the training camp next fall, Dach will have an important projector on him, who will remain there when he tries to demonstrate that he can play a full season of the NHL. Until now, in six seasons, the maximum he played in a single year was 70 games in 2021-222, when he was a member of the Blackhawks.

We are not here to empty Dach. Whenever injuries prevent someone from competing, there is a sadness inherent in the game. It is certainly true for Dach’s misfortune, and he remains a talented player who can always bounce back. But in the professional hockey sector, if you still do not contribute to the way other players can, you will finally be faced with the bypass of your team’s plans. It is a cold blood company.
