ESPN personality Pat McAfee explored how much Caleb Williams has changed his NFL draft value — if at all — during the NFL combine this past weekend. One could argue that the question may already be irrelevant. If the Chicago Bears have already decided to take Caleb first overall, there’s no point in discussing Caleb’s perceived draft value. If, however, the Bears haven’t made up their mind or are at least fielding potential trade offers (but knowing they need a massive offer to even consider a trade), then the subject of draft action Caleb still means something.
The Bears may know what they want, but they need to trade Justin Fields and free up cap space for Caleb Williams. Until this trade is executed and finalized, there will be some uncertainty surrounding Caleb and the Bears. Once Justin Fields is traded, then everyone can fully prepare for the Caleb era in Chicago.
As for Caleb’s draft stock, there’s only so much an interview can tell. Caleb Williams will throw passes at USC’s pro day on Wednesday, March 20. If the Bears haven’t made a final decision by March 19 — and also haven’t traded Fields by then — USC’s pro day could represent one last big moment for the Bears.
