Joe Highsmith was not the only Joe to win his first victory on the PGA Tour on Sunday.
As a father, like his son. Caddy Joe Lacava Jr., son of the legendary shopping cart, also caught his first flag at 18th At the PGA National’s race champion in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Highsmith, with Lacava Jr. on the bag, pulled a 64 without Bogey to win the 2025 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches by two strokes.
“We had an incredible time since we started together last fall,” said Highsmith. “Today, he was great and kept me centered and we were just concentrated on my photos and generally keeping it quite light there. It was great.
Lacava previously completed a winning bag on the PGA Tour champions in 2023 for Steve Stricker in the tradition of the regions. He worked last season on the Korn Ferry Tour for Logan McCallister, who obtained a place at the US Open in Pinehurst n ° 2.
Lacava’s father cut his teeth for his brother-in-law, Ken Green, from the manufacturers of 1983 Hanover Classic at the age of 19. They have won four times in three years. Lacava has become one of the best known caddies, winning 12 times, including the masters of 1992, with Fred couples. The eldest Lacava spent a short stay with Dustin Johnson before joining Tiger Woods in 2011 and was on the bag when Woods won the Masters 2019. After Woods was injured in a car accident and reduced his schedule, Lacava moved to Patrick Cantlay bag in full time.
Lacava Jr. worked alongside his father at the PNC championship, Cadding for Charlie during the team of two people. This aroused the interest of Joe Jr. for the profession and he spent a summer working with the famous winged foot for a summer.
And finally, he followed his father in the family business.
“He was great. I think it was a fairly fluid transition to make it work for me, “said Highsmith. “We were good friends a few years ago during the tour of Korn Ferry, and we stayed in houses together in some different tournaments and we became friends, and he worked for one of my friends at the time. The timing worked well last year. I think their Korn Ferry season was coming to an end and he got his hand to see if I needed someone for the fall.
“I had had a very bad year throughout the regular season, and I said to myself, why not?”
Together, Highsmith overturned its season with two TOP-10 and five TOP-25 in six departures in the fall to keep its gaming privileges this season.
“He is really good in what he does, but he is also just one of the boys, and we have a good time there, and he keeps it light and everything,” said Highsmith.
“I think it was good today, obviously, with high pressure there, being able to keep it to keep me relaxed and whatever. I have the impression that you are right there with one of your friends, and this part was great, but also staying focused on the process and so on, it was great. Yeah, so he was great.
