BYU cheerleading coach Jocelyn Allan says she was knocked unconscious by a water bottle thrown from the stands at the end of the Cougars’ 22-21 win over Utah at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
In an Instagram post, Allan wrote: “At the end of tonight’s BYU/Utah game, a Utah fan sitting at the table in the south end zone threw a water bottle and threw me hit directly in the head. I lost consciousness but luckily was taken down to the ground by one of my cheerleaders. Police are reviewing video footage to identify which seats it came from (we have a pretty good idea). If you have seen the incident or have any information on the family that owns this particular box, please contact me. THANKS!”
The BYU cheer squad was stationed in the southwest corner of Rice-Eccles Stadium throughout the game, including directly after the contest ended.
After the clock hit zero, a few fans in the stadium’s record crowd threw trash onto the field, but video of the alleged incident is not publicly available.
Allan could not be reached for comment Sunday.
When reached for comment, a BYU athletics spokesperson responded, “The incident is still under review and we will not provide further comment at this time.”
Allan has been BYU’s cheer coach since 2010.
