Bulldogs face tough competition at Columbus North Invitational

Sept. 17—COLUMBUS — The Batesville boys tennis team traveled to Columbus North on Saturday to compete in the annual Bull Dogs tournament. The other three teams are all in the top 8 in District 8: No. 1 Columbus North (No. 6 in the state), No. 4 Bordon and No. 7 Providence.

Batesville opened the invitational tournament with a 5-0 loss to Bordon.

At No. 1 singles, Batesville’s Caleb Mohr was defeated by Judd Missi 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Batesville’s Jevan Smith lost to Brady Peine 6-0, 6-0. Batesville’s Carson Meyer lost the No. 3 singles match to Parker Rarick 6-4, 6-2.

Batesville’s No. 1 doubles team of Lincoln Garrett and Deev Ranka was defeated by Kylan Nash and Zander Keith 6-4, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Batesville’s Wes Peters and Owen Westerfeld lost to Will Banet and Nash Missi 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

In the second round, the Bulldogs lost a close game to Providence 3-2.

Mohr lost at No. 1 singles to Zachary Popson 6-1, 6-0. Smith won a tight match against Gage Christmas at No. 2 singles 7-6 (7-1), 7-5. Meyer eliminated Hunter Acra 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, Garrett and Ranka lost to Foster Nash and Harrison Folz at first doubles in a super tiebreaker 4-6, 7-5, 10-4. At second doubles, Peters and Westerfeld also lost the match in a super tiebreaker to Griffin Rodski and Cooper Nash 3-6, 6-1, 10-3.

The host Bull Dogs beat Batesville 5-0 in the final game of the day.

At No. 1 singles, Mohr lost 6-0, 6-0 to Hank Lin. At No. 2 singles, Smith was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Parth Shah. At No. 3 singles, Meyer lost to Teddy Littrell 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, Garrett and Ranka lost to Yoki Murabayaski and Vince Sasse 6-2, 6-0. In doubles, Peters and Westerfeld lost 6-1, 6-1 to Adrian Perez and Jace Branham.

Batesville (7-8) hosts Rushville on Saturday.
