Justin Thomas discusses his third round of the 2025 players’ championship
One day after matching the record of the players’ championship with a 10 sous, Justin Thomas fired a 1 against 73 during a windy day at TCP Saygrass.
Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida – – Bud Cauley was in The players’ championship field.
And then he came out.
Then Monday, he received the call. Lee Hodges had withdrawn. He was back.
Now Cauley, a resident of Palm Beach Gardens for the last decade, is entering the players In second place after having drawn a 66 under 66. It is a shot from the head held by JJ SPAUN, who kept the head solo of 54 holes with a 25 -foot putt that rolled around the cup before falling.
Spaun is 12 sous. Cauley has an advance of two strokes on Lucas Glover by Jupiter and Alex Smalley.
The last round was pushed up and the golfers will play in groups of three due to an incoming cold front. The leaders will pass on at 10:01 a.m.
Cauley, who will be 35 years old on Sunday, was in the field of original players released on March 7 before the victory of Karl Vilips at the Puerto Rico Open last Sunday knocked him out.
As a first alternative, he learned on Monday in which he was back.
Bud Cauley trains at the Jack Nicklaus bear club when the call came
Cauley trained at the Bear’s club from Jack Nicklaus to Jupiter when he received the call.
“I hoped a little that being once, I could have the opportunity, but you never know,” said Cauley. “But that was good on Monday, so where I did not have to sweat before Wednesday afternoon or something. I was able to come here Tuesday and Wednesday and have a few normal days.”
Cauley equaled the bottom of the day of the day on Saturday, but the others – Danny Walker and Corey Connors of Jupiter – played before the winds started to whisk about 20 mi / h and have gusts of 30.
Cauley grew up in the Jacksonville region and has several times played TPC Sawgrass as a young golfer. He was asked if he had already seen the wind also burst.
“If it was so strong, I would probably go home,” said Cauley. “Probably not.
“It seemed that each hole was a challenge with the wind and trying to do it on the fairway and put it on green and ride in a putt. But it was difficult.”
Cauley has played three previous players’ championships, missing the Cup three times. He never finished more than third in 206 PGA Tour events.
Cauley, ranked 251st in the world, was tied in the 16th row of the weekend after having drawn 68-71. On Saturday, he carded seven birdies, three bogeys and an eagle on n ° 9, where he cut 35.6 feet.
“I have driven the ball all week well and I put it as well,” said Cauley. “I have the impression that when I had these 10, 12, 15, 15 feet for Birdie, I was able to do most, and that helped a lot.”
