A preseason moment that once seemed fleeting has resurfaced with renewed force. An on-court collision between veteran Brittney Griner and rookie Sonia Citron during an exhibition game in May is circulating online again, sparking new reactions. This contact sent Citron to the ground and sparked a debate. Now, as the clip gains traction, Griner has addressed the moment, adding context to a sequence that caught fans off-guard.

Griner’s hard screen sent Citron crashing to the ground midway through the first half, which is a classic rookie reality check. Griner spoke about the accident on Instagram, admitting they weren’t physically fit and apologizing for how bad it made them feel.

“Every time we meet on the field, it’s me standing, it’s me, or, like, I really need people to call the screens, okay? I’m an 18 wheeler, and there’s a lot of little Mini Coopers out there, okay? Like, they gotta walk, like, gotta call the screen. It’s crazy, but so sorry,” the veteran wrote, with the caption “My bad yo

@soniacitron.

Griner’s light-hearted apology carried extra weight given how his night in Atlanta went to that point. What stood out was the moment following the collision. Griner helped Citron get back on his feet, and the rookie quickly returned, showing the toughness required at the professional level.

A few days later, Citron herself allayed her concerns by posting the clip on Instagram, simply reassuring fans: “I’m fine, everyone don’t worry.”

What started as an embarrassing accident turned into a full-circle moment that showed how the WNBA treats real-life situations with humor. In Griner’s first game with his new team, Atlanta won 80-70. Citron learned a valuable lesson about how difficult the league is. The viral video is still circulating months later.

Brittney Griner is making waves in the Unrivaled League

Brittney Griner has moved to a whole new arena, away from the WNBA court. The veteran center is currently playing in Miami, Florida for the second season of the unrivaled 3-on-3 league. She is making her mark in a new competitive context.

Phantom BChis first team, but Griner was picked up by Vinyl, a team with stars like Erica Wheeler, Dearica Hamby, Rhyne Howard and Courtney Williams. Griner turned what could have been a career setback into a new opportunity. After being dumped by Phantom BC, she joined Vinyl and is making the most of every minute. His last match, on January 23, told the whole story.

In just 9.4 minutes on the court, Griner scored 12 points. She shot 4 of 6 from the field and made both of her free throws. She also seized six boards, showing that she still owns the painting as she owns the land. Whether it’s the WNBA, Unrivaled League or any other field, she’s ready to play at the highest level and make her mark.
