Do you think your group golf trips are fun and memorable?
On a recent trip to Ireland, your colleague Ken A. and his group of eight stepped things up by hiring a professional photographer to follow them for 18 holes.
And that was only the beginning.
They also created a logo – a play on Nostradamus and Doomsday 2012 – and had it embroidered on a hat and sweatshirt for everyone. Group members could then send in any additional items they wanted with a logo.

Pretty cool, huh?
These kinds of things do wonders for memorization and camaraderie…and they don’t have to be expensive.
In Ken’s case, it cost $300 to create and configure the logo for on-demand embroidery. The photographer’s fee was 390 euros (about $500), which four guys split as a gift to the group.
“By the time we finished dinner, our eight CDs came with about 400 pictures and a slideshow with music,” Ken told me in an email. “We love these photos and they definitely beat everyone else’s snapshots.” (See below.)

I’ve also heard of groups making a personalized trophy that is passed from one winner from one year to the next; groups ordering personalized cigars (or just cigar bands); and, of course, all kinds of wacky traditions and rituals that cost nothing (unless gambling is involved).
I want to thank Ken for sharing his group’s ideas, which he did, in part, to open a discussion on what is likely a fertile topic:
What has your group done – or considered doing – to increase the memorableness, camaraderie and fun factor of your golf trips?
