As Warriors general manager and president of basketball operations Bob Myers enters the final months of his contract that expires in June, other NBA teams are monitoring the situation.
Anthony Slater, Marcus Thompson II and Sam Amick of The Athletic reported Wednesday, citing sources, that people around Myers are starting to wonder if his days with the Warriors are numbered.
If Myers left Golden State but remained in the NBA, the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks would be teams that could be possible landing spots for the man behind almost every move that built the Warriors dynasty.
However, the one team that could pose the biggest threat to sweep Myers is the Los Angeles Clippers.
“Meanwhile, recent attention in front office circles, where the Myers situation has become a hot topic, is on the Clippers,” The Athletic reported. “They have the richest owner in all of professional sports in Steve Ballmer, the 66-year-old former Microsoft CEO with a net worth of $83 billion who has taken a blank check approach in his quest for the title since purchasing the team in 2014.”
Besides Ballmer’s ability to tell Myers to give him his asking price, the Clippers owner could offer the architect of four NBA championships over the last eight seasons the chance to work in a city he knows well.
“Myers’ roots run deep in the Los Angeles area,” The Athletic reported. “He played at UCLA, earned his law degree at Loyola Law School and was a prominent agent for the Los Angeles-based Wasserman Media Group before joining the Warriors as assistant general manager in 2011. Yet Even though Ballmer’s injury-riddled team has been a disappointment thus far in this Kawhi Leonard-Paul George era, a source with knowledge of the Clippers’ operation pushed back on the widely discussed Myers possibility.

The Clippers should enter a new arena, the Intuit Dome, for the 2024-25 NBA season in Inglewood as the team escapes the shadow of the Los Angeles Lakers. However, if Ballmer suffers another playoff disappointment, he could tap Myers to lead the new era of Clippers basketball.
While the The Warriors have made their offers To keep Myers, he holds influence over where he wants to continue his career, whether in the Bay or elsewhere.
