Rory McILroy discusses the preparation of the 2025 masters, a form of national Augusta

Before setting it up in Texas Children’s Houston Open, Rory McILroy made a scouting trip to Augusta National before the Masters.

  • Rory McILroy plays in the Houston Open for Children of Texas 2025 as preparation for masters.
  • McILroy estimates that the conditions for the course of the Memorial Park golf course are similar to Augusta National.
  • This is the first time that McILroy has been playing in the Houston Open since 2014.

Houston – Rory McILroy is a handyman.

Whether it is his swing or his schedule, he is not very different from other golfers who always try to find a way to win. This off -season, He locked himself inside for three weeks to change the shape of his swing. He tried to imitate the management and strategy of the Scottie Scheffler courses. And with regard to his schedule, he always seems to change it before the Down Magnolia Lane trip.

It’s no different this year. The world n ° 2 is in the Lone Star State for Texas Children’s Houston Open 2025, the first of the two events in Texas leading to the Masters. This is his first time to play Houston Open since 2014, when the event was a week before the first major of the year. The tournament returned to the spring part of the PGA Tour calendar last year, and with this Memorial Park golf course takes closer to the conditions the best in the world will face Augusta National because of the supervised Bermuda grass, and McILroy took note.

“I have watched this tournament in the past two years, especially since he has moved on this date instead of the fall, and I had the impression that it was a golf course that would be in my alley and would be suitable for my game and would be suitable for my style of play,” said McILroy. “It’s good to take a look at the golf course in recent days. Excited to continue, you know. It was an excellent start to the season for me and I want to continue.”

McILroy went to one of his best departures for a season of his career. He won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and last week, he beat JJ Spaun in a three-hole global to win his second players’ championship. It is the first time in his career that he has earned twice before April. And heading for masters, he changes his preparation again.

It would be necessary to return to the 2018-2019 seasons, when McILroy played the WGC-Dell Technologies match as his last departure before Augusta National, for the last time he played the same event in the consecutive years as his last tournament before the Masters. With a green jacket separating it from the Grand Slam, the golfers to win the four major championships, the spotlights shine more on McILroy during this period of the year, but 2025 seems different.

More: Why Texas Children’s Houston Open is essential for this preparation of amateur masters

McILroy made a screening trip to Augusta National on Monday before going to Houston. He will then take next week before descending Magnolia Lane for attempt n ° 11 to the Grand Slam. The trip was in order to get back with the course and adapt to any change.

“There are four Greens who are new this year they have redone,” said McILroy. “You just sort of, you take a look and see if there are new hole positions they give you, things like that. Honestly for me, it’s nice to play a training session without people and it removes pressure from the beginning of the week for me. There is a lot of obligations; and that is generally the reason why I go (early).”

But first, McILroy will get his first shooting at Memorial Park, a world place Scottie Scheffler, a double winner of the masters, succeeded, as well as other bombers on tour like Tony Finau, among others. Last year, Scheffler and Finau finished T-2, a blow behind the possible champion Stephan Jaeger. Scheffler missed a 5 feet for birdie on the 72nd hole to force a playoff series.

Tuesday, Finau said that Memorial Park, a municipal place a few kilometers west of the city center of Houston, is the perfect golf course for the players to be able to prepare the masters. He was one of the many who delighted the course last year and predicted that the field would strengthen in the future. McILroy is one of the multiple who added it to their schedule.

“A large part of the scales is very similar to what we are going to face in a few weeks,” said McILroy. “I just thought that there were a few different things about the golf course that would not only suit my game and what I do well, but also, yes, looking at a eye for a few weeks, there are some things that I would be confronted here which would be a little good preparation or good practices in the first major of the year.”

Augusta National is in the mind of Mcilroy, but he does not lose the task of accomplishing this week.

“I just want to have a card in my hand and shoot scores and I hope to put myself in the running and try to win another golf tournament,” said McILroy. “It’s not like I’m playing here this week and I’m thinking about two weeks. I’m here, I’m in the present, I’m trying to do my best this week and trying to win this golf tournament.”
