Oct. 22 — SPRING LAKE PARK — The Bemidji State women’s tennis team earned a 5-2 road victory over Wisconsin-River Falls on Sunday afternoon thanks to a strong performance in the singles matches.
The Falcons opened with a 1-0 lead after winning two of three doubles matches. Sophie Groen and Lauren Rutten earned BSU’s only win in No. 1 doubles.
However, the Beavers dominated in singles, winning five of six matches to claim victory.
Groen led the way at No. 1 in singles, edging Sydney Wiener in straight sets with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Valesca Rodriguez, Ana LucÍa Ibáñez and Julia Lindseth notched straight-set victories at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 in singles, respectively.
Lauren Rutten won the No. 4 singles in three sets.
