Former FC Barcelona midfield prodigy Nico Gonzalez is having a spectacular season at FC Porto.
Regular midfielder of the Portuguese team, the former The Masia gem is starting to become a sought-after asset in the market.
Nico left Barca for Porto in the summer of 2023, with the Catalans retaining a buyout option worth €30 million for the promising midfielder, as well as a 40% future resale clause.
Barcelona won’t bring back Nico Gonzalez
According to SPORTBarcelona have until June 30, 2025 to exercise their option to buy Nico Gonzalez worth €30 million, but they will not do so.
THE Blaugrana will recognize the player’s progress since leaving the club for FC Porto but will focus on promoting players from the academy, while waiting for Nico to be sold in order to receive 40% of the transfer fee.
Barcelona have been weighing the possibility of bringing Nico back, as they have included a buyout clause which expires in 2025. They sold him for almost 9 million euros in the hope that he would succeed at Porto, which he did.
The Spaniard has been closely followed by Deco, but it is believed that funds available for investment will be limited and the club will focus on local players for the midfield position, with Marc Casado and Marc Bernal considered to be key future options.
Barcelona could pocket 24 million euros thanks to the sale of Nico
Barcelona are now awaiting a major sale of Nico Gonzalez this summer, which could bring in a good profit. The midfielder has a release clause set at around €60 million, with the Catalans set to receive 40% of the transfer fee.
Recently, there have been reports of interest from Liverpool, while Aston Villa are also said to be interested in the player, although no firm offers have been made so far.
If either club meets Nico’s €60m release clause, Barça would gain 24 million euros thanks to the operation.
