Australians Penny Taylor and Erin Phillips won the 2014 WNBA championship as the Phoenix Mercury completed a three-game clean sweep over the Chicago Sky.
The Mercury, coached by former Opal Sandy Brondello, finished off the Sky in a tight 87-82 victory on Saturday morning (AEST).
Finals MVP Diana Taurasi was the top scorer, alongside Candice Dupree, with 24 points in Game 3 and hit a game-clinching jumper with 14.3 seconds left.
Two free throws from Taylor (11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals) gave the Mercury their biggest lead of the evening five seconds later.
Mercury’s star center and No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 draft, Brittney Griner, missed the deciding game after hitting her finger in the eye in Game 2.
Elena Delle Donne (23 points) Sky’s top scorer.
