Auburn’s head coach Hugh Freeze received a diagnosis of prostate cancer, the school announced on Friday. School said in a statement that cancer was captured early.
“Recently, Coach Freeze was diagnosed with an early form of prostate cancer. Fortunately, he was detected early and his doctors indicated that he was very treatable and guerrissable,” the statement said.
Freeze will continue its regular coaching responsibilities but will undergo treatment by the school. He “should recover completely”.
The school added that Freeze hopes to use the diagnosis as an opportunity to encourage people to follow their medical exams.
“Coach Freeze is incredibly grateful for our health professionals and has asked that we use his experience as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing and planning annual health projections,” the statement said.
Freeze took over as Auburn football trapper in 2023, leading the team to an appearance at the Bowl in its first season. The veteran head coach led Ole Miss and Liberty teams before landing in Auburn.
