Auburn Football is on the shortlist of top 25 quarterbacks heading into the spring training season.
Will Mencl, a four-star quarterback from Chandler, Arizona, included Auburn in his top four as spring football begins, along with Oregon, Miami and Penn State.

Mencl recently spent time with Auburn’s new coaching staff in January. He recalled his visit to Auburn with Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong, calling the visit “comfortable.”
“It was a family atmosphere” Mencl said in an interview with Rivals. “I enjoyed my time there. I was in a meeting with OC Joel Gordon for an hour, then we went to lunch and came back for another two hours and it felt like only 15 minutes had passed. He’s a very easy guy to learn from. Coach (Alex) Golesh is a great person. I had some really good conversations with him.”
If Auburn signed Mencl in its 2027 signing class, it would be in the middle of a heavy quarterback battle heading into the 2027 season. USF transfer Byrum Brown is expected to win the starting quarterback job for the 2026 season, his final year of eligibility, and the 2027 race is expected to be between Oregon State transfer Tristan Ti’a, USF transfer Locklan Hewlett and true freshman Rhys Brush.
Mencl is a 6-3, 205-pound quarterback from Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona. The four-star quarterback is the No. 19 quarterback according to Rivals’ industry rankings and the fifth highest-rated Arizona player in the 2027 class.
